Governor Doyle is being urged to call legislators into a special session on energy issues.

It's coming from state Representative Marlin Schneider (D-Wisconsin Rapids), who says Wisconsin should consider bold initiatives to deal with energy crisis that's being bolstered by soaring energy prices. He says there are many possible steps the state could take, such as lowering the speed limit to reduce the amount of gas drivers are using. He also thinks the state could reexamine building codes and offer tax incentives for home energy use. Schneider also thinks 10 hour work days over four days a week would reduce the amount of gas drivers are using.

Schneider says the state is doing virtually nothing more than long range planning, and lawmakers should make some changes now to help reduce energy consumption.
