An incredibly gruesome case comes out of Sheboygan. Karen Lueders, 57, is facing a felony mayhem charge on accusations that she bit off her husband’s tongue. Sheboygan County District Attorney Joe DeCecco says the incident happened after the couple had been singing Christmas carols and was getting ready to call it a night.
During a goodnight kiss, she bit off part her husband Willard’s tongue which caused severe bleeding. Willard called for medical help. “It was hard to understand him on the 911 call,” says DeCecco.
When paramedics arrived, Karen blew a New Years Eve horn and threw coffee at them but the 79-year-old Willard requested his wife not be arrested. He handed over the piece of tongue to the responders and had to be taken to the hospital to have the organ reattached.
DeCecco thinks the tongue biting woman could have mental health issues, so he’s still determining if the DA’s office will continue to prosecute for mayhem.
