Candidates for attorney general are in place. Let the spending begin.
As Jay Heck with Common Cause in Wisconsin notes, there's already been plenty spent in the race to become Wisconsin's top cop. J.B. Van Hollen's spending edge meant that he was even able to poll nearly as well as Waukesha County D.A. Paul Bucher, in Bucher's own county. On the Democrat side, Kathleen Falk outspent Peg Lautenshclager, and outpolled the incumbent AG in all but 21 of the state's 72 counties. Lautenschlager and Vince Biskupic spent some two million dollars total in the last election for AG, a number Heck says we easily surpass in this race.
And spending for attorney general will in turn be dwarfed by the governor's race between Jim Doyle and Mark Green, and the Eighth District Congressional race between John Gard and Steve Kagen. That will be the most expensive congressional campaign in state history.
