Members of the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, who are currently returning home, missed the deer hunting season while they were serving Iraq. Now, a state lawmaker wants to give them a chance to still bag a buck or doe.

State Representative Chris Danou (D-Trempealeau) had introduced a bill that would create a special weekend hunt for the 3,200 soldiers from the Wisconsin National Guard. But, after working with the DNR, he says they came up with a different idea. Now, they’re going to connect soldiers with property owners who have special DNR hunting permits because deer damage their crops.

Danou says soldiers will then be able to set up a time with those property owners over the next few months, giving them more flexibility.

Soldiers can call their county’s veterans service office to find a location.
