There’s some optimism in car showrooms around Wisconsin. Overall, 2009 saw sales of new vehicles dip 17-percent from the year before. But there was a reversal at the end, according to Scott Quimby of Reg-Trak Incorporated.

Quimby heads a Waterloo-based firm that tracks registration numbers, and he says December numbers were up 13-percent statewide. He says that’s likely due to many vehicle owners getting tired of repair bills with their old cars, so they had to look for new deals.

Quimby says dealers are hoping the trend continues in this new year. A total of just under 160,000 new cars and trucks were sold in Wisconsin last year.
