Smoking may soon be banned in Dane County towns.
The Dane County Board is set to vote Thursday on a smoking ban for towns, and it looks like it will pass. Supervisor Dave de Felice says there's plenty of support for it on the board with 27 of the 37 members signed on as co-sponsors.
The ordinance would go into effect March 15, 2009. It would impact bars and restaurants located in towns. The Board can not regulate cities.
The proposal is not sitting well with bar owners in those small towns. Dane County Tavern League President Barb Mercer says it will be devastating for many of them. They're vowing to fight the ban at all costs.
