A coalition of Wisconsin advocacy groups and public officials are calling for nearly $2 billion in projects aimed at expanding public transportation, adopting renewable energy technologies, and making homes more energy efficient.

Midwest Environmental Advocates' Melissa Scanlan says the projects detailed in the coalition's "Blueprint for Wisconsin's Green Economy" should serve as a road map for stimulating the economy and getting jobs back on track in the state. The coalition says its proposal would also create about 30,000 jobs statewide.

Scanlan says many of the projects listed in their proposal mirror those offered by Governor Doyle. However, she says it only pulls out the pieces the coalition believes will help build a green economy.

Doyle submitted a $3.7 billion wish list to the federal government in December that detailed a number of infrastructure improvements across the state that could benefit from federal funding.
