A heated race for the 81st Assembly District seat comes to a close this week.

Democratic Party of Dane County Chairman Wayne Bigelow says six Democrats are seeking the seat currently held by State Representative Dave Travis (D-Waunakee), who has served the district for nearly 30 years. With no Republican running for the seat in November, Bigelow says Tuesday is essentially the election.

It's one of the largest slates of candidates for Tuesday's primary, and Bigelow says voter turnout will be crucial. He says voters in the 81st need to get out, because the winner will likely represent them for the next 15 to 20 years.

Bigelow says the candidates running for the seat have a wide range of backgrounds. They are retired insurance lobbyist Eric Englund, Madison businessman Peng Her, Dane County assistant DA Tim Kiefer, Waunakee village president John Laubmeier, former NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin director Kelda Helen Roys, and state legislative aide Justin Sargent.

With support widely varied in the district as well, Bigelow says predicting a winner of the primary race is nearly impossible.
