New numbers from the Wisconsin Realtors Association show the average price of a home in Wisconsin took a big jump to start off the new year.
Figures released by the WRA show the median price was 10.1 percent higher than January of last year – coming in at almost $149,000. Association President Mike Theo credits a mild winter, improving economy, and continued low interest rates. “We did have interest rates below four percent during this period, and that helped keep the fundamentals strong,” he said.
There was also a 10.4 percent jump in overall sales, which could be a good sign for those looking to sell a home this year. “If we have our coldest months with such strong sales, when we get into the typically high selling seasons of the spring and the summer, those numbers are bound to go up,” he said.
Theo says the January price jump was the biggest since the middle of 2013.
