A non-alcoholic holiday drink guide aims to keep holiday parties safe, while maintaining — or even improving — the fun!
Triple-A Wisconsin hopes to help prevent drunk-driving deaths and injuries as most of us get together with friends and families for the holidays. Larry Kamholz, traffic safety specialist/community outreach, describes the auto group's popular recipe booklet — Great Pretenders Party Guide.
"Every year Triple-A comes together and they work with our Five Star Diamond hotels and restaurants and we combine a nonalcoholic drink menu of a variety of nonalcoholic drinks that are kind of fun and a drink that's a little bit more zesty and a little more unique than just a soda during the holidays."
In 2005, alcohol was a factor in more than 40% of all traffic fatalities in the state. Nationwide, in 2006 almost 18,000 people died in alcohol-related traffic crashes. Triple-A is trying to change the way people think about driving while intoxicated. The booklet offers more than just recipes for any party host.
"It also has got some fun facts about alcohol, you know, the rate that alcohol is going to leave your system when you drink. There are some other facts about people dying in crashes related to alcohol. You know every three hours someone under the age of 21 dies in an alcohol-related crash."
The guide also contains tips for helping responsible adults to deal with guests who have a few too many. Get your free guide by visiting any AAA Wisconsin office, call their toll-free number 1-800-236-1300 X 2486, or visit www.AAA.com/Pretenders .
