Today’s cold economic reality leads to many a pet getting dumped in the wild, but a kitty cat has a new home because of it. The Paddock Lake Thrift Shop, in western Kenosha County, gets all kinds of donations, but no one expected to find a young cat inside a box marked “house wares,” especially five-days after it arrived and was put into a storage room.

Store owners Diane Schick and Mary Schutt tell the Kenosha News they cut open the box that had been wrapped in duct tape and found the cat, which they described as emaciated. Both are aghast that anyone could be so cruel to an animal.

The cat also turned out to be pregnant, but the five kittens did not survive. Perhaps recognizing a potential business opportunity with some free publicity, but more likely because of whom they are, the two women are keeping the cat, which they’ve named “Solo,” denoting from where she came.
