A former Wisconsin Rapids police officer under investigation for child sex crimes has taken his own life. Grand Rapids police say they found the body of 41-year-old Steven Lowe in the back of his truck 10:30 Monday morning. Wood County Coroner Garry Kronstadt pronounced Lowe dead at the scene but no other information on how he died has been released.
Earlier this month, Lowe was taken off the job and then resigned after state investigators accused him of posing as a girl online to get nude photos of teenage boys. The death is under investigation, and no other information is being released.

UPDATE: Wood County Deputy Coroner Gabe Holczer confirms Lowe took his own life. Holczer said Lowe shot himself in the chest several times with a nail gun. He died between midnight and 4:00 a.m. Monday.
Investigators said Lowe pretended to be a teenage girl on the Internet to get naked pictures of boys. He resigned August 1st on the day he was arrested and suspended from the department. The next day, he posted $20,000 bond.
