A federal court is being asked to prohibit Wisconsin from enforcing its ban on same sex marriages while a legal challenge plays out. The American Civil Liberties roup filed a lawsuit against Wisconsin’s ban on same sex marriage on February 3. Now the ACLU seeks a preliminary injunction to suspended the ban during the court case. The group contends complainants in the legal action are likely to prevail and should not be harmed until then.

The new filing also adds four more same-sex couples to the original action. The original four couples wish to marry in Wisconsin, or to have the state recognize their marriages that took place in other states. Federal Judge Barbara Crabb has scheduled a hearing for March 27.
