While speaking to gun rights advocates in Washington DC, State Rep. Evan Wynn (R-Whitewater) praised Wisconsin’s recent passage of concealed carry but doesn’t think it “went far enough.”
The state law will allow carrying concealed weapons in open places on college campuses but allows schools to ban it, inside of public buildings.
The freshman lawmaker says colleges can be violent places naming “frat parties that get out of hand, date rape” in addition to mass shooting incidents like the Virginia Tech Massacre. He says students have a right to defend themselves under the second amendment.
Wisconsin Anti-Violence Effort called for stricter gun laws, following Virginia Tech, in an effort to “prevent future tragedies.”
The forum was sponsored by Students for Concealed Carry on Campus and the Second Amendment foundation.
