Jim Edmonds ailing right Achilles tendinitis is preventing him from starting

With the score tied 2-2 with 2-outs in the 8th, Edmonds sent a 1-2 pitch from Bronson Arroyo deep but foul, just outside the foul poll in right field. Arroyo came back with another fast ball and Edmonds promptly sent it deep into the right-center field seats to give the Brewers the win. For Edmonds, it was just his second career home run off of Arroyo.

Rickie Weeks tied the score 2-2 with a 2-run homer in the 3rd. The Brewers have now hit at least one home run in 15 straight games, the team’s longest streak since July of 2008. That year, the Brewers hit homers in a franchise record 20-straight games. In the current 15-game stretch, the Brewers have clubbed 27 home runs.
It’s the 5th straight win for the Brewers as they gained a full game on the Reds and a half-game on the idle Cardinals. Randy Wolf worked 7-solid innings but wasn’t involved in the decision. Wolf said it’s not about catching team’s right now.

Carlos Villanueva worked the 8th inning to pick up the win and John Axford pitched the 9th for his 15th save.
Game 2 of the series is tonight. The Brewers send Yovani Gallardo (9-4) to the mound against Cincinnati’s Edinson Volquez (1-1). Volquez is making just his 3rd start after returning from Tommy John surgery. He lasted just
2 1/3 innings last time out, giving up 6-runs against the Washington Nationals.
