The state Department of Natural Resources has issued an air quality watch for the southern half of Wisconsin through noon Saturday.

Regional air and waste leader Tom Woletz says the higher levels are due in part to more people traveling and heating their homes this time of year. He says you can help by reducing any unnecessary driving or postponing any outdoor burning or activity that uses small gas or diesel engines.

The increased pollution has made it difficult for some people to breathe or get around. Anyone with heart or lung disease should pay extra attention to any health problems they experience and cut back on strenuous activities.

Woletz says a snowstorm that's expected to hit the state this weekend should help blow the fine particles out of the area.
