The 61st Alice in Dairyland, Ashley Huibregtse of Plymouth, says dairy has more nutrients than sports drinks: "when you're fueling up for a sporting activity, it's logical to pick chocolate milk because it has the nutrients that you need besides the energy."
She won the pageant to become the Wisconsin agricultural ambassador. Huibregtse assumed the position, which coincides with June being Dairy Month.
Part of the job involves educating people about ethanol use in flex fuel vehicles which use a blend of 85 percent of ethyl alcohol and 15 percent gasoline. The ethyl alcohol comes from starch products such as corn. Huibregtse says the Wisconsin corn is used in the ethanol, causing a boost to our economy.
Ashley rides around in a flex fuel Tahoe with bright yellow corn on the side, so you may see Alice in Dairyland in a town near you.
