A detective with the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department has been placed on administrative leave after being charged with first offense drunk driving in connection with an early morning traffic mishap.

Baraboo police responded to a minor accident about 8:00 Monday morning. Detective Joel Vodak struck the rear of a vehicle with his unmarked squad, resulting in minor damage to both vehicles. The Sheriff’s Department requested an internal investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol, and a State Trooper determined that Vodak may have been impaired. After further investigation, Vodak was arrested by the Trooper for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated First Offense.

The incident remains under investigation by the Baraboo Police, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department, and Vodak, a 15 year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, was placed on Administrative Leave.
