A Walworth County Sheriff's deputy shot and killed the father of a Kenosha toddler to end an Amber Alert manhunt in Southeast Wisconsin. It started 11 Monday morning with Antonio Torres, 41, of Zion-Illinois returning his 22 month old daughter to her mother's Kenosha home after visitation. Kenosha Police Chief John Morrissey says the man assaulted the woman during an argument, and fled with the child.

He later called the woman while officers were on-scene. Authorities tried to get him to return the child but Morrissey says Torres refused and said the next time police saw him, he and his daughter would be shot. Morrissey says they learned about similar behavior with Torres in the past, and took this situation very seriously.

"It's a tremendous feeling the child was safe because we truly believe he was going to kill that kid."

Court records said Torres also kidnapped his ex-wife and kids in 1998.

The state Department of Criminal Investigation has taken the lead on reviewing the case.
