A messy cleanup this morning for Fond du Lac County officials, after a semi-truck overturned on Highway 26 near Rosendale and dumped nearly 50,000 pounds of meat renderings onto the road.

While the renderings are not considered a hazardous material, Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig says it’s not like crews can just hose them off into a ditch either. He says crews had to put down sand and scoop the material into a truck, while also spreading lime to help get rid of the greasy residue.

The crash occurred at about 2:40 on Wednesday morning when police say the driver of the truck, 33-year-old Joshua Martinez of Green Bay, missed a curve and went into a ditch. The truck tipped over while he was trying to get back on the road. The semi is owned by Sanimax, a company out of Green Bay.

Martinez was taken to a Ripon hospital, where he was treated and released.

The highway was closed for several hours, but has since reopened.
