Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District will see a Democratic primary after all.
Author and former college wrestler Joe Reasbeck of Iron River announced over the weekend that he will run for the seat being vacated by retiring Congressman Dave Obey (D-WI). The Superior native says it’s an opportunity to serve and he’s at a point in his life, at age 41, where he wants to do something to make a difference for his children.
Reasbeck will run in the Democratic Primary against state Senator Julie Lassa (D-Stevens Point), who emerged unopposed from the many speculated candidates within the state Legislature. He says voters deserve to have a real choice, after decades of not having a competitive race.
In 2006, Reasbeck ran a write-in campaign for the Texas Congressional District formerly represented by Tom Delay. He ran as a Republican and ended up with less than one-percent of the vote.
Ashland County DA Sean Duffy and Dan Mielke of Rudolph are seeking the Republican nomination.
