Reports of sealed adoption records showing up on a public state web site raise questions about security.

As many as three million people a day view the state's web site of court cases known as C-Cap. But Tom Sheehan with the Director of State Courts office says while a mistake was made, nothing confidential in nature was put on the site.

Sheehan calls it a very limited exposure of case indexes showing only names and involving only Milwaukee County. Sheehan says someone seeing just a name on the case file index would still have to do a lot of detective work to find out anything more. And even then confidential files would still be inaccessible.

Despite that limited exposure, Sheehan says the site is very secure and reviewed constantly.

This isn't the first privacy issue with the site. A special advisory had to be posted warning employers it is illegal to discriminate against potential employees based on information uncovered in the court records.
