The Attorney General is appealing the decision to dismiss his lawsuit against the Government Accountability Board.

A Dane County judge last month threw out the lawsuit , which sought to force the GAB to verify voter registration information dating back to January of 2006. The judge ruled Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen and state Republican Party didn't have the standing to file the lawsuit.

Van Hollen is appealing that decision, because he says state agencies need to follow the law. He contends the Help America Vote Act requires the registration checks.

The Attorney General says he waited to file the appeal because there was no possibility for relief before the election. However, he says it's still important because there will be future elections.
