Appleton’s Gerry Davis will be the umpire Crew Chief for the World Series and

will work the plate in tonight’s World Series Game 1 between the Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants in San Francisco.

This will be the fifth World Series for Davis, a 20-year umpiring veteran who also worked the series in 1996, 1999, 2004 and 2009.

Davis has worked 111 postseason games, tying retired umpires Jerry Crawford and Bruce Froemming for the record.

The Tigers will send right hander Justin Verlander to the mound and face Giants lefty Barry Zito.
