The state Department of Transportation says last month was the safest April on Wisconsin roads since the end of World War II.
The DOT says 27 people died in 21 crashes on state roadways last month, which is 15 fewer people than the five-year average for April. The deadliest April on record for the state was in 1973, with 113 fatalities.
Overall for the year, a total of 115 people have been killed in traffic crashes along Wisconsin roadways. Among those, six motorcyclists and 16 pedestrians have been killed. Deaths so far in 2014 are down by 18 compared to last year.
