The campus of UW-Platteville was on lock down Monday afternoon, after one person reported seeing a man armed with an assault rifle in a campus rest room.
During a press conference, UW-Platteville Chancellor Dennis Shields said a student reported hearing a clicking noise and seeing a gun barrel in a first floor mens room in Ullsvik Hall. The student pulled a fire alarm and the building evacuated at 12:50 p.m. The building was closed at 1:15, and Williams ordered the rest of the 820 acre campus closed. Classes and activities were cancelled. A sweep of the building was completed at 2:50, and faculty, staff and students who had belongings in Ullsvik were allowed to return and pick up their items.
No shots were fired, and no one was injured. The suspect was reportedly wearing a gray shirt with black pants, black-soled shoes and is believed to be a white male. There are no security cameras in Ullsvik Hall.
Classes will resume as scheduled Tuesday morning.
