The $66 billion budget approved by the Democratic-controlled state Senate Tuesday night could carry a dubious national distinction. That's the charge from Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch, where the budget heads now. The West Salem Republican says the Senate plan shows there is no limit to the amount of taxes that Democrats believe the people of Wisconsin can pay.

Huebsch believes the budget that passed the Senate this week is the largest tax increase in the nation. That includes $18 billion in new payroll taxes and hikes for cigarettes and oil companies.

Assembly action on the budget could come as early as next Tuesday. Huebsch says Republicans will reject tax hikes.
