Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen says the decision to offer a $245,000 a year senior vice president position to former DOA Secretary Michael Morgan appears to be in violation of UW hiring policies.

The opinion was part of a letter sent to state Representative Steve Nass (R-Whitewater), who requested an investigation after Morgan was offered the job by UW System President Kevin Reilly.

Van Hollen says Board of Regents’ policies indicate that a search committee should have been formed to find possible candidates for the position, but that action was not taken.

Van Hollen says his office lacks the power to investigate further, and it’s up to the Board of Regents to decide if a violation occurred and if any action should be taken.
