Wisconsin Attorneys who oppose a Constitutional amendment defining marriage are mobilizing statewide.
Madison attorney, Carol Skinner, says Attorneys Against the Ban doesn't speak for the state Bar, but is an outgrowth of two sections of the Bar. They want to educate attorneys and the public to problems with the amendment, especially the second section, which states “a legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage . . shall not be valid or recognized” in Wisconsin.
Skinner predicts that passage of the amendment in November will lead to numerous legal challenges from couples seeking partner benefits. The attorneys group has a website with more information, and states that the group has garnered the support of more than 100 Wisconsin attorneys who have pledged their opposition to the ban.
