Newly released audio paints a much different picture of a raid at the home of a former Milwaukee County employee than what was earlier claimed. Cindy Archer told the National Review earlier this year that investigators threatened her when they raided her Madison home in 2011 as part of a John Doe investigation – refusing to even let her get a cup of coffee.

An unsealed audio file from the case, posted by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, tells a different story – one where the chief investigator was professional and courteous. “I’m sort of doing you a courtesy by letting you get a coffee and smoke a cigarette just because I imagine being woken up at six in the morning by a bunch of people in black suits is not the way you want to wake up in the day,” Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office investigator Aaron Weiss can be heard saying.

Archer also claimed officers did not read her the search warrant, and failed to inform her of her constitutional rights – both of which they can be heard doing on the audio. Archer has sued the Milwaukee County District Attorney and several staffers in connection with the search. An attorney for two investigators named in the suit submitted the audio file to federal court on Monday.
