An audit of the state Elections Board has one lawmaker questioning the choice to head a new oversight panel. Representative Sue Jeskewitz says she's extremely disappointed that the latest audit of the state Elections Board reveals many of the same problems identified in a 2005 audit.

While the Elections Board will be replaced by the new Government Accountability Board , Jeskewitz says the audit findings still matter, especially since Elections Board executive director Kevin Kennedy has been tapped to head the accountability board.

The audit revealed numerous problems, not least of which is that the new statewide voter registration system is unable to access other state records. Jeskewitz also questions whether the system will be ready in time for next Spring's primary, or even next November's general election. The Menomonee Falls Republican is co-chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee.
