The Departmemt of Natural Recources responds, to an audit of wetland regulation. Mary Ellen Vollbrecht is the agency's waterway protection section chief. She says DNR is already working to correct the areas of concern raised by audit. Among the recommendations contained in the audit report: DNR should increase efforts to ensure consistent enforcement practices when permits are filed to alter wetlands. Vollbrecht believes the agency is already pretty consistent on that count. There's one issue raised in the audit which Vollbrecht does not disagree with. Auditors found that DNR's existing wetland maps are outdated and not easily accessible by the public. She says there working to address the accessibility issue, and on determining the cost of updated mapping. The Joint Legislative Audit Committee is expected to hold a public hearing on the audit findings in late summer.
