Steven Avery won't be sentenced for a while yet. The Brendan Dassey trial is next.

After spending 18 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, Steven Avery now faces life in prison for a crime a Calumet County jury says he did do. The jury convicted Avery of first degree intentional homicide in the death of Teresa Halbach while finding him not guilty of mutilating a corpse.

Avery maintains his innocence according to his lawyer Jerome Buting. An appeal is likely since Buting said they will do everything possible to help Avery with the cause of proving his innocence.

Now, attention turns to next month's trial of 16-year old Brendan Dassey. Dassey is Steven Avery's nephew who's charged with helping his uncle kill Halbach.

Prosecutor Ken Kratz says his office is already building its case since there is very little time between this trial and Dassey's.

Defense Attorney Dean Strang won't talk about that trial and he hopes no one else will either saying he hopes a 16-year old "kid can start with a stronger presumption of innocence than his adult uncle was able to".

Dassey's trial will be held in Manitowoc County with a jury selected from Dane County in April.
