Wisconsin’s kickoff coverage unit was burned for a long return on the opening kickoff. It led to a touchdown on the next play and Badger fans had to have that sinking feeling against the much quicker Miami Hurricanes. But the Badgers didn’t panic.
After failing to keep their first drive alive, punter Brad Nortman pinned Miami deep, the Badger defense got a stop and Wisconsin went on to even the score. From that point forward, the Badgers appeared to be in control and went on to beat the Hurricanes 20-14.
The Badger defense put pressure on Miami QB Jacory Harris throughout and won the physical battle. They registered five quarterback sacks and contained Miami’s quickness by not allowing the Hurricane offense to get into a rhythm.

Running Back John Clay (pictured) rushed for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns, QB Scott Tolzein passed for 260 yards and tight end Lance Kendricks caught seven passes for 128 yards.
It wasn’t a perfect performance, but the Badgers played smash-mouth football. Defensive ends O’Brien Schofieldand J.J. Watt both made several big plays, as well as true freshman linebacker Chris Borland.
It sent the Badgers to their 10th win (10-3) of the season and their first victory over a ranked opponent this year. It also evened Bret Bielema’s bowl record at UW to 2-2 and it avenged a loss to Florida State in last years Champs Sports Bowl. Miami finished their season at 9-4.
