Madison’s State Street was filled with Badgers fans Saturday night, as thousands took to the streets to celebrate the mens basketball team’s win over Arizona to advance to the Final Four of the NCAA tournament.
The demonstrations were largely peaceful, although extra police were called in to help control a crowd that filled a long stretch of the downtown area. Those celebrating the win were dispersed by police after about an hour.
The Badgers will play in the Final Four next Saturday in Dallas. University of Wisconsin-Madison officials say ticket information will be posted on the UW’s website.
The UW will welcome the Badgers home on Sunday, with a ceremony at the Kohl Center. Gates will open at 3 p.m., with the event scheduled to start at around 4 p.m. Admission is free.
While the celebrations in Madison were civil, Arizona fans took to the streets of Tuscon to riot, where 15 people were reportedly arrested.
