The second-ranked Wisconsin women’s hockey team cruised to their fifth straight victory to start the season, blanking St. Cloud State 5-0 in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Junior goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens posted her third straight shutout, stopping 10 shots in goal.  Desbiens now has 20 career shutouts, tied for 13th all-time in N-C-A-A history.

Another junior, Sarah Nurse, had a pair of short-handed goals in Wisconsin’s win.

The Badgers outshot St. Cloud State 45-to-ten to win in dominant fashion.  Lauren Williams, Jenny Ryan and Rachel Jones scored Wisconsin’s other goals.

The Badgers and Huskies wrap up the weekend series this afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

Badger Men Blanked

Number-four Boston College scored 12-seconds into their home game against the Wisconsin Badgers and went on to shutout the Badgers 6-0 last night.

Austin Cangelosi got the first of his two goals before the teams were even warmed up.  Four minutes later, a short-handed goal made it 2-0.  The Eagles scored three goals in the second period to put the game on ice.

It was the first loss for the Badgers after a pair of ties to open the season last weekend against Northern Michigan.

Freshman goaltender Matt Jurusik replaced Adam Miller in the second period and came up with 19 saves.

The Badgers close out the weekend with a game at Boston University tonight.
