The Wisconsin Badger men’s hockey team (16-15-2, 11-14-2 WCHA) played the spoiler on Friday night, upsetting #4 Minnesota 4-1 at Mariucci Arena.

The win is the fourth in a row for the Badgers and 3rd straight on the road.

Wisconsin’s Tyler Barnes broke a scoreless tie in the first period with a rebound goal.  The Badgers then took command with three more goals in the second period, scores from Ryan Little, Michael Mersch and Mark Zengerle.  Wisconsin went into the locker room with a 4-0 lead after two periods.

Despite the UW victory, Minnesota clinched the No. 1 seed for the WCHA playoffs and a share of the MacNaughton Cup after Minnesota Duluth fell at St. Cloud State.

The Badgers will go for their fifth-straight victory and fight for a sweep over the Gophers on Saturday night at 7pm.
