The Wisconsin women’s basketball team opened Big Ten play with a 73-69 win over the Indiana Hoosiers on New Years Eve at the Kohl Center.
Wisconsin (5-6, 1-0 Big Ten) led by as many as 10 points in the game, but the Hoosiers closed the gap to two-points with 2:16 to play. Two offensive rebounds set up Nicole Bauman’s 3-pointer with 53-seconds left to put the Badgers up five-points with 53-seconds left.
Indiana would get no closer than four points the rest of the way as the Badgers went 6-for-8 from the free throw line to seal the win.
Bauman scored 12 of her team high 24 points in the fourth quarter, including 6-for-6 at the free throw line.
Fellow senior Dakota Whyte added 17 points for the Badgers, who will travel to East Lansing to face 24th ranked Michigan State on Sunday afternoon.
