Wisconsin logo After beating Washington State 42-21 Saturday, and improving to 1-0, the Wisconsin Badgers  moved up to No. 5 in both the USA Today Coaches Poll and the AP Poll on Tuesday.

The Badgers received one first-place vote in each of the polls and were tied for fifth with Oklahoma in the AP Poll with 275 points.  In the USA Today Coaches Poll, the Badgers received 183 points.

USC remained in the No. 1 spot, while LSU, Florida and West Virginia were the only teams ahead of Wisconsin.  Big Ten opponents Ohio State (12/11) and Penn State (14/15) were the only others in the top-25.  Michigan dropped from the top-25 and is currently receiving votes.

The ranking is the highest since Wisconsin was ranked fifth in the USA Today Coaches Poll at the end of last year from Dec. 3, 2006-Jan. 9, 2007.

The last time the Badgers were ranked fifth or better in the AP Poll was 2004, when the team was in the top-5 for two weeks from Oct. 31-Nov. 13.
