Wisconsin signed 24 scholarship players and added six preferred walk-ons to grow the 2010 freshman class to 30 players.

Three of the projected players are defensive tackles, led by6’3, 307 pound big man Beau Allen of Minnetonka, Minnesota.  Coach Bret Bielema said the class featured a good group of defensive tackles.

The Badgers feel Allen could be the one player in the tackle group that could contribute right away as a freshman.  His family has ties to the UW.  Allen’s uncle was a football letter winner in 1980 and ’81 at Wisconsin.  His grandfather was a six-time All-American swimmer at UW from 1956 to 1959.

Wisconsin is losing reserve offensive lineman and Sturgeon Bay, WI native Jake Bscherer.  Bscherer started three games at left guard and three games at right tackle last season.  Bscherer was looking for more playing time and that’s not in the future in Madison.
