Wisconsin Junior defenseman Jamie McBain was named the 2009 WCHA Player of the Year and a top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, given to College Hockey's top player.
McBain (pictured) is the 8th Badger named to the top-10 finalist list for the Hobey Baker Award since the awards inception in 1981, and the first since goaltender Brian Elliott reached the final three for the award in 2006. McBain, the only WCHA representative among the top-10 Hobey finalists, finished the regular season as the top scoring defensemen in the WCHA with 28 points in league games and 34 points in all games.
McBain and the Badgers face Denver this afternoon in the WCHA's Final Five semifinals this afternoon in St. Paul. The Badgers are 0-4 agains Denver this season.
