The 2016 Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament gets underway today in Indianapolis.

The Wisconsin Badgers (7-21, 3-15 Big Ten) are the number 13-seed in the 14-team field.  They’ll face 12th-seeded Northwestern (15-15, 4-14) at 12:30 p.m CT at Bankers Life Field House.  The winner will advance to face fifth-seeded Minnesota (19-10, 11-7) in the second round on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. CT.

The Badgers are 10-21 in the Big Ten Tournament, advancing to the semifinals in 2002 and 2009.  They lost to Purdue in overtime in the first round last season.

The next Badger loss would be the 100th in coach Bobbie Kelsey’s five-year stay in Madison.  There’s a good chance those results could cost Kelsey her job.

In Kelsey’s first season (2011-12), the Badgers finished 9-and-20, good for 9th place in the Big Ten.  The Badgers finished in 11th place in the Big Ten in each of Kelsey’s next three seasons.  Their best record during that stretch was 12-19 in 2012-13.  This season, the Badgers finished the regular season in the 13th position with a seven-and-21 mark.

The Badgers failed to win a Big Ten road game for the fourth time in program history, going oh-and-nine in conference play.
