There was nothing sweet about the "Sweet 16" for the Badger men's basketball team as Davidson thumped UW 73-56 at Detroit's Ford Field. The 10 th seeded Wildcats controlled the tempo from the start and let sharp-shooter Stephen Curry do this thing. The teams were tied at 36 at the half, but then Curry took over outscoring UW 22-20 by himself after the break. He finished with 33 points on 11 of 22 from the floor. Jason Richards had 11 points and 13 assists for Davidson.
UW never really got in the flow on Friday night and things got worse when point guard Travon Hughes went out in the first half with and ankle injury and did not return.
Michael Flowers led the way for Wisconsin with 12 points. Brian Butch and Jason Bohannon added 11 and Joe Krabbenhoft 10 in the loss.
The loss to Davison also meant the final college game for seniors, Brian Butch, Greg Stiemsma, Michael Flowers, and Tanner Bronson. Those four seniors ended up with two trips to the Sweet 16 and one journey to the Elite 8 during their college career.
The Badgers season ends at 31-5. Those 31 wins are a school record. Davidson improves to 29-6 as they ride a 25 game win streak into Sunday's Regional Final against Kansas.
