Bucky Badger logoThe Wisconsin Badgers saw their Big Ten losing streak reach three straight games, falling to the Northwestern Wildcats 70-65 in Evanston.

Nigel Hayes scored 17 points, six rebounds and six assists in the loss as the Badgers dropped to 1-4 in the Big Ten and 9-9 overall.

Bryant Mcintosh scored 28 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field to lead the Wildcats.  McIntosh added five assists and four rebounds and finished 6-of-8 at the free throw line.

Northwestern is known for relying on three-point shooting, but wound up scoring 30 points in the paint.  The Wildcats hit 22 of 34 at the free throw line, while the Badgers got just 13 chances, making 10.

Redshirt freshman Ethan Happ added 12 points, but coach Greg Gard said Happ needs to be more aggressive and more consistent.

Point guard Bronson Koenig (nine points, three turnovers) was frustrated after the game saying the Badgers took a step back with the loss.  He said the Wildcats competed harder than the Badgers and there’s no excuse for that.
