Armin Wand III

The two men accused of setting a fire that killed three children and seriously burned the wife of a suspect made their first appearance Wednesday in Lafayette County court.

Bail was set at $1.4 million for 32-year-old Armin Wand III, the father accused of setting a fire at a home in Argyle in what police say was a plot to collect life insurance policies on his family. Armin’s 18-year-old brother Jeremy Wand, who is accused of helping to start the fire in the early morning hours of September 7th, had bail set at $1.2 million.

Both men face mutiple counts of first degree intentional homicide and attempted homicide, along with a single arson count each.

The fire claimed the lives of Wand’s three young sons and seriously burned his wife. Sharon Wand remains hospitalized and lost a baby she was four months pregnant with at the time. Their two-year-old daughter escaped without injury.

A fund has been set up to help pay for the funerals of the three boys who died in the fire. Money can be sent to Talmer Bank and Trust in Monroe.
