The latest in a string of tavern robberies in Racine turned deadly over the weekend, and the Police Chief is telling those involved to give up or they will be found.
Some bar owners have altered their operations and security, but all have been affected by the holdups the past few months. The latest resulted in the death of 47-year old Joseph Walker of Racine, who was a patron of the American Legion Post 546 tavern. Walker was shot and killed by one of two robbers who showed up after closing.
Racine Police Chief Art Howell calls it “a brutal and senseless act of violence,” and the case is being worked “around the clock.” The Chief has also encouraged those involved to turn themselves, calling it “the best outcome” that won’t restore an innocent life, but “can bring a small measure of closure” to the victim’s family.
