A couple of gubernatorial candidates speak in Madison to Wisconsin’s largest business group.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is convinced it’s all about the jobs. The Democratic candidate for governor tells Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce he’s the man for the job because he’s been working to create jobs for the last six years as Mayor of Wisconsin’s largest city.
“I’ve been working to create jobs in southeastern Wisconsin, and from day one as governor I will work to create jobs throughout the state. … To me that’s what this is all about, is jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs.”
Although he spoke to a group of business leaders, Barrett says his message is the same practical message for members of the community, and he’s not convinced that the business community will opt for a Republican to lead the state.
“The values that unite us as Wisconsinites are really universal values … there’s nothing partisan about that.”
Barrett also says he would like to scale back on the Clean Energy Jobs Act (global warming bill), specifically the California emission standards. However, he does support good energy practices, including efficiency, conservation, and the use of local resources.
NOTE: Republican Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker also spoke to the group. Former Republican Congressman Mark Neumann was invited but couldn’t make it.
