A judge in Clark County this week ruled the state’s ban on carrying a concealed firearm is unconstitutional, renewing discussions over whether the state should pass a law to legalize the practice.
Democrat gubernatorial nominee Tom Barrett has some reservations about doing that, saying there are concerns about the impact of concealed carry on public safety. Barrett says whether he’d sign a law allowing the public to carry a concealed firearm would depend largely on what the bill looks like and whether law enforcement supports the measure.
Barrett says he doesn’t want to see firearms in places like shopping malls or at little league games.
Wisconsin is one of two states that ban concealed carry of handguns.
Republican nominee Scott Walker supports concealed carry and says he would sign a law legalizing it in Wisconsin.
