A Beloit man found buried in the rubble of a home that exploded over the weekend has died from his injuries.
The Rock County Coroner’s Office confirmed Thursday that 37-year-old Todd Purdy died as a result of burns and smoke inhalation. Purdy and his wife, 33-year-old Tara Purdy, had both been hospitalized since Sunday’s explosion.
The Beloit Fire Department pulled the couple from what was left of the rental house after it exploded Sunday evening. The coroner’s office says Todd Purdy had second and third-degree burns over 50 percent of his body. Tara Purdy remains hospitalized and is in fair condition.
Officials determined the cause of the explosion was an uncapped gas line, which the couple failed to notice after installing a new stove that day.
