A 26-year-old Beloit woman is facing a handful of charges after police say she led officers on a chase and then abandoned her vehicle with two small children inside.

A Rock County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Amanda K. McKinney just before 9:30 Saturday night after a random license plate check showed she had an active felony warrant. When the deputy got out of his vehicle to speak with McKinney, she put he vehicle in drive and took off.

Police found the vehicle a little over a half mile away and discovered that McKinney and a male passenger had fled on foot. A second male passenger and McKinney’s four and five year old children remained in the vehicle. The two children were turned over to their grandfather.

McKinney was taken into custody a short time later, and booked into the Rock County Jail on the felony warrant, as well as felony fleeing, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also cited for operating a motor vehicle after revocation, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and having open intoxicants in a vehicle.

The two children were turned over to their grandfather.
